Without stringent controls, platforms risk becoming conduits for disinformation, hate speech, cyberbullying, and even incitement to violence. For instance, the rapid spread of unsubstantiated claims during public health crises or political events can have genuinely destabilising ramifications, while unchecked harassment can inflict severe psychological damage on individuals. Therefore, a proactive stance is essential to uphold public safety and ethical online conduct.
